  After its founding in 1980, School of Foreign Languages has offered six associate bachelor programs successively for the junior college students, including Applied English, Secretarial English, English Education, Trade and Economy English, Business English and Tourism English. The school started the undergraduate programs of English Language and Literature, Translation and Interpreting, Business English, Russian Language and Literature in the year of 2008, 2014, 2016 and 2020 respectively. Currently, there are a total of 2,166 students graduating from the school during the past 10 years and 1,236 undergraduates studying in the school.

  School of Foreign Languages has CPC & Administration Office, Office of Student Affairs, and seven teaching and research departments, including English Language and Literature Department, Business English Department, Translation and Interpreting Department, Russian Language and Literature Department,No.1 Office of College English Teaching & Research, No.2 Office of College English Teaching & Research, and Experimental Centre. In addition, there are four research centers established in the school, namely, Publicity and Translation Research Centre, one of the top think-tanks of Humanities and Social Sciences in Luoyang; the university-level Research Centre of Language Services and Translation Technology; the school-level Applied Linguistics Research Centre; and the school-level British and American Literature Centre. At present, the school offers four undergraduate programs, including English Language and Literature, Translation and Interpreting, Business English, Russian Language and Literature.

  The school has a young and passionate team of 6 administrative staff and 102 full-time faculty members, among whom 27 hold senior professional and technical positions,10 awarded doctoral degrees, one Ph.D candidate,15 recipients of overseas education, 58 application-oriented teachers, one State Council Expert for Special Allowance, 2 “Academic Leaders” granted by Education Department of Henan Province, one “May 1st Labour Medallist” awarded by Luoyang Municipal Government, four “Henan Merit Teacher” winners, two “LIT Top-10 Teachers” recipients, nine school-level model teachers, 12 teachers who have won teachers’ competitions held by Education Department of Henan Province, one star prize winner of Henan Class Innovation Competition, seven first-class and second-class winners of LIT Teaching Competition, and more than 30 teachers winning provincial micro-class competitions. In addition, the school has one provincial-level first-class undergraduate course and one online course approved. Many foreign experts from Britain, Ireland, Russia and other countries are employed in the school as well.

  School of Foreign Languages has adequate facilities for research and teaching. At present, a total of twenty-four laboratories of different types are available in the school for multi-purposes, including thirteen language laboratories, four self-directed college English learning centers, one simultaneous interpretation laboratory, one collaborative and innovative language laboratory, three smart classrooms for college English teaching, one multi-purpose cross-cultural communication training center and one simulation classroom for business English.  

  The school also attaches equal importance to the foreign language teaching and study, making use of what have been learned and applying it to real-life situations. There is a variety of academic exchanges or seminars held on the regular basis in the school, such as LIT Foreign Language Forum, LIT Foreign Language Salon and etc. In the fields of foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, translatology, British and American literature, comparative literature and cross-cultural communication, we have participated in and undertaken teaching and scientific research projects at all levels in recent years, including 41 province-level and 343 municipality-level projects; have published 498 research papers, of which 114 are from CSSCI indexed journals and Chinese core journals; and published 56 works including monographs, translated books, textbooks and reference books. From them, 150 scientific and teaching research projects have won achievement awards, two of which have won the prizes of Social Science Excellence Award from the Henan Provincial Government. At the same time, the school endeavors to improve the university-enterprise cooperation, innovation and entrepreneurship of undergraduates as well as the sense of serving the local economy. The faculty members and students actively volunteer to provide translation and interpreting services for many projects such as Sino-British Strategic Cooperation under the framework of Belt and Road Initiative, 2018 Luoyang World Ancient Capital Forum, 2019 China-Central and Eastern European Countries Cultural Heritage Forum and 2020 the Belt and Road Initiative (Luoyang) International Agricultural Cooperation Expo, which have received high recognition from all walks of life.      

  By attaching great importance to the role of moral education and socialism consciousness building, the school takes mental health and quality education as the starting point by nurturing campus culture, which is kept closely connected to the specialties, students and campus life so as to promote students' all-round quality, vocational skills and etc.

  School of Foreign Languages also pays special attention to the improvement of teaching. In recent years, a large number of outstanding graduates have been admitted to prestigious universities for master degrees, such as Renmin University of China, China Foreign Affairs University, Beijing Normal University, Nanjing Normal University, Shanghai Foreign Studies University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Beijing Language and Culture University. Some students have been admitted to famous foreign universities in the United States, Britain and Canada for master’s degrees. The school also encourages the students to actively participate in English competitions at all levels, and there are students that won the star prize of NECCS for English majors every year.

  In answering the call of strengthening the Party as a Marxist party, School of Foreign Languages aims to fulfill the fundamental task of improving the undergraduate programs and students’ expertise, and serve the local economy and China’s building materials industry. In reference to the trinity model of knowledge, capability and quality of students, we are committed to cultivating the application-oriented talents of foreign languages by laying stress on integration of theory into practice and the mode of intensive development rather than extensive development.
